Patrick Nicholas |
Patrick Nicholas is the Ngati Ranginui Fisheries Trust Representative on the Holding Company. Patrick has a Masters in Business Administration with over 20 years of Director experience. Patrick sees the biggest challenge facing the industry is the commodity nature of wild catch fishing, our distance from the market and the inability to differentiate our catch from other countries. Aquaculture is a qrowth area. The proposed 4009 hectare mussel farm at Otamarakau and the consented 3800 hectare farm at Opotiki are looking at expanding to Pacific oysters, Flat oysters, Scallops, Paua, Geoducks, Sea Cucumber native seaweed and finfish (Hapuka, Kingfish, Bluefin Tuna). These farms have a lot of potential but are new and still experimental. Patrick represents Bay of Plenty tribes in the aquaculture settlement negotiations with the Crown. |
