Population
According to the NZ Statistics’ 2006 Census on Ngati Ranginui, 7,647 people, or one percent of the total population of Maori descent belong to Ngati Ranginui, an increase from 6,117 people from the last census conducted in 2001.
Te Reo Maori speakers
Thirty-four percent of Ngati Ranginui could hold a conversation about everyday things in te reo Maori, the same proportion as in 2001. 1,680 people or sixty-five percent of the Ngati Ranginui population who could körero Maori were aged 15–64 years.
Education
Sixty-nine percent of Ngati Ranginui aged 15 years and over held a formal qualification in 2006. This proportion is higher than in 2001 (when it was sixty-three percent), 468 people or ten percent of that total percentage of formal qualification holders was made up of those who held a bachelor's degree or higher as their highest qualification.
