According to the NZ Statistics’ 2013 Census on Ngati Ranginui Iwi, 8,967 people, or 1.3 percent of the total population of Maori descent belong to Ngati Ranginui Iwi, an increase from 7,644 people from the last census conducted in 2006.

31.3 percent of Ngati Ranginui Iwi could hold a conversation about everyday things in te reo Maori, in comparison with 18.4 percent of the total population of Maori descent. 30.2 percent of those who could hold a conversation about everyday things in te reo Maori were aged under 15 years, 63.3 percent were aged 15-64 years, and 6.7 percent were aged 65 years and over.
73.8 percent of Ngati Ranginui iwi held a formal qualification, compared with 68.7 percent of the total population of Maori descent. In 2006, 68.9 percent held a formal qualification. 753 people, or 14.0 percent held a bachelor's degree or higher as their highest qualification, an increase from 468 people, or 10.5 percent in 2006.
