Te Kapa Haka o Ngāti Ranginui

Ko Mauao te Maunga
Ko Te Awanui te Moana
Ko Ngāti Ranginui te Iwi
Ko Taakitimu te Waka
Ko Tamatea Arikinui te tangata

The Kapa was established by the late Naisey Rihi Ngatoko, the wife of Dr Morehu Ngatoko. To bring together the hapū and marae of Ngāti Ranginui in the Tauranga Moana region. Her version also included maintaining the ancestral links of Ranginui to the Takitimu region as their ancestor Ranginui was the older sibling to Kahungunu.

From 1993 to 2016 Te Kapahaka o Ngāti Ranginui have competed at nine regionals and qualified for thier first national stand in 2009 hosted in Tauranga moana. From the year 2013 to 2017 the roopu was fortunate to stand again on the national stage to compete against 40+ other roopu. In 2017 the roopu competed at Te Matatini held in Hastings and based thier performing bracket around Te Weranga and paying tribute to the late Awanuiārangi Black. The group also acknowledges all past members, kaumatua, supporters and performers who have supported the kapa throughout the years, e kore e mimiti te puna aroha ki ngaa huanga katoa.

I te ngaro a Ngāti Ranginui ka kitea ka kitea ka kitea, is the roopu mission statement and signifies the development of the iwi teachings, history, whakapapa and taonga for future generations.
